The Ministry of Energy has completed a pre-commissioning assessment on the Charlotte, Bankasoka & Makali Mini hydro plants from the 28th to 29th October 2017.
Minister Amb. Henry Macauley who moved with a high level team from the Ministry said the assessment was to clear the way for the commissioning by mid-November this year.
At Charlotte and Bankasoka Mini dams, the Minister briefed all present that Bankasoka was an idea of the late S.I Koroma (son of the soil). He said in the 80s, UNIDO did a physibility studies but announced to the people that there was no funding for Bankasoka. Then in 2012, this government of President Koroma took up the responsibility to implement the project through the Chinese Government. The Minister continued that the President Koroma will commission Bankasoka in November this year. He continued that in Port Loko, about 300 poles have been stringed along with 16 transformers installed. Songs of praises were sang for the Ministry of Energy by the women and key stakeholders including P C Alikali Mellah II , decided to hold radio talk shows to clarify certain issues and educate the public on the ownership and security of the electricity facilities in the district.
Similar project inspection took place at Makali Mini hydro dam and Kono Power station. Also present in all this were the Deputy Ministers I and II, the Permanent Secretary Mrs. Zainab Buya-Kamara, Director Benjamin Kamara, Deputy Secretary Komba Momoh, Dr. Hussaini, Robin Mansaray and a host of engineers from EGTC and EDSA alongside the Ministry of Energy .
